BPPC is a full service hospital offering routine preventative healthcare as well as internal medicine, surgery, dentistry and acupuncture. The foundation of our practice is an emphasis on wellness care and client education. We are well aware that the only way we will get to care for your pet when he is sick is to educate you to recognize important signs so that you can bring him in. We have yet to see a pet present itself for treatment! Our emphasis on client education and routine annual or semiannual wellness exams helps us monitor your pet's health and gives us time to educate you about potential health problems and signs to watch for.

For those times when your pet is not himself, the clinic is equipped with a full diagnostic lab and has the ability to run blood counts, serum chemistries, urine and fecal analyses while you wait. There is also an in-house radiology unit. All these amenities mean that when your pet is ill, we can have important diagnostic information within an hour so we know what is wrong and how best to treat it. A fast accurate diagnosis means a more appropriate treatment and a better outcome

In addition, the clinic is equipped with a diagnostic ultrasound unit capable of imaging your pet's internal organs and detecting problems that are sometimes not apparent with blood work or radiographs.

There is a designated surgery room with gas anesthesia. We perform a wide variety of routine soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries. While your pet is under, he is closely monitored with state of the art equipment including ECG, blood pressure and pulse oximetry to insure that his surgical experience is safe and problem free. In most cases your pet will receive intravenous fluids during surgery to insure a more rapid recovery.

To meet the dental care needs of our patients, we have two dental cleaning units with sonic scalers, high speed drills and polishing hand pieces. Dental disease is the most prevalent problem in small animals today. 80% of all pets have some degree of dental disease. Every time your pet is examined we will make a point of communicating his dental health status to you. Poor dental health has been tied to a number of other problems such as an increased incidence of chronic respiratory disease. We believe a clean mouth is a healthy mouth!

All our doctors have been thoroughly trained in all aspects of traditional veterinary medicine. In addition to this Dr. Roper has completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society course on veterinary acupuncture and incorporates it into his treatment plans when appropriate. Acupuncture is an extremely valuable treatment modality for many of the challenges facing our older pets such as arthritis, intervertebral disc disease and chronic immune disorders. For more information on acupuncture, visit the IVAS website at http://www.ivas.org.
