At Bay Park Pet Clinic we are committed to providing you the best in care for your new pet. We realize that to accomplish that it is our job to educate you about what is best for your pets, so that you can make sure they get the care they need. While your pets are very young, they require frequent check ups to make sure that they are parasite free, and receive the appropriate vaccinations. During these check ups, we will educate you regarding important health matters such as feeding, grooming, training, the importance of spaying and neutering, and behavioral problems. We will also let you know if there are specific problem to which your pet may be prone due to their breed. We hope that you will avail ourselves of the puppy and kitten packages so that we can convey this important material to you. After the first year, your pets' health needs become less intensive. Most pets do fine with a routine annual examination. During this exam, the doctor will check your pet for signs of common problems such as dental disease, internal and external parasites, ear infections and other issues that often are not detected by the untrained eye. If indicated, your pets' vaccinations will be updated and the doctor will answer any questions you have regarding the care and health of your pet. Just as with people, as pets age their healthcare requirements intensify. When your pets turn seven, we recommend that they start coming in for semi-annual check ups and that we run a blood panel and urinalysis each year to screen for occult diseases such as kidney disease, thyroid disease, and liver disease. Listed below are some common signs of disease in pets and a few diseases that commonly present with them: Changes in water consumption: Diabetes, kidney disease, urinary tract infections Increases or decreases in appetite: thyroid disease, diabetes, dental disease, tumors Sudden weight loss or weight gain: Thyroid disease, tumors, diabetes, arthritis Reluctance to exercise: heart disease, arthritis. Thyroid disease Changes in breathing: Heart disease, lung disease, laryngeal paralysis Chronic coughing: Heart disease, bronchitis, heartworm Changes in bowel habits or persistent vomiting: tumors, colitis, Inflammatory Bowel Dz. Frequent urination or leaking of urine: Kidney disease, Urinary tract infections, bladder stones Changes in coat condition: thyroid disease, adrenal gland disease, dietary problems As a conscientious pet owner, you will be familiar with your pets' normal routine, If you notice an aberration, please contact us.
